P.H.A.E (Preserving Heritage and Earth).
PHAE was born out of our belief that the world needs to pause and start appreciating slow traditional crafts to show love for our earth and mitigate the horrors of climate change.
With this thought we took the plunge to start our journey which preserves, promotes, upskills and innovates on different crafts of India . We promise to encompass as many crafts as possible in our ambit as we travel further in our journey .
We decided to take one step at a time and chose Chikankari as our first craft. Residing in Lucknow for many years has nurtured our love for Chikankari and also brought us face to face with the state of the craft and its craftsmen.
Partnership :We are passionate about working directly with our artisans and evolving a partnership with them . This helps in weeding out middlemen and their exploitative ways. This partnership also helps us to keep control over our workmanship and allows craftsmen to get better reward for their labour of love.
Sourcing : At PHAE we take responsibility to ensure that every step in the journey is gentle on the earth .
We chose to work only with natural fibre fabrics and handlooms which are responsibly made and do not abuse the earth.
Craft : The art of Chikankari is threatened majorly from two front – cheap machine- made alternatives and
Under pressure of cost cutting badly embroidered cheap garments ,which is pulling down not only the craft but also its artisans . These badly made pieces also create a general acceptance among consumers about the low level of craftmanship hence spoiling the market for finely embroidered pieces. We are here to preserve the craft in its best form by working with skilled artisans and constantly making endeavours in upskilling the new ones to keep the craft flourishing for the future .
Women empowerment : Women play a pivotal role across the company in ownership, management and everyday execution . Our team of artisans are all women both rural and urban . We are proud to be a team of women who are empowering other women # womensupportingwomen.
Honestly Handcrafted: Each and every piece that we bring to you is 100% handcrafted by skilled artisans .
We strive to bring designs which amalgamate traditional craft and modern design sensibilities for todays urban fashion stage .
One more step in the right direction : We strive to make every step to reduce our carbon footprints . We have done away with plastic in our packaging and trims. Making everything natural is our way of showering love on our earth.
